Training Items Needed
For your training to be effective, the proper tools must be used in training your dog. Below are the items needed for the different training Smart Paws does.
Dog Obedience Class & Private Lessons
6 foot standard dog leash
The leash is one of the tools a dog trainer needs. The leash needs to be 6 feet long and may either be nylon or leather.

*** IMPORTANT NOTICE ***
Retractable leashes cannot be used for training. Retractable leashes do not give the owner complete control to quickly and effectively train their dog.

A Training Collar or Training Harness
Martingale Collar:
Martingale collars are commonly used for dogs who need to be reminded of their manners when walking on a leash. The tightening of the control loop does not hurt the dog but does cause discomfort that encourages them to stop pulling while on leash. It is important that your dog does not lean into the collar and consistently pull. Martingales are designed to tighten when necessary and remain relaxed the majority of the time.
There are two types of martingale collars. Limited Slip and Half Check. A Limited Slip martingale collar is made completely out of nylon and when sized properly does not allow the dog to pull backwards out of the collar. The trainers leash attached to a D-Ring on a nylon loop. A Half Check is made from nylon and uses a chain holding the ends together. The trainers leash attaches to a ring on the chain.

Easy Walk Harness:
There is only one harness Smart Paws uses in dog training. The Easy Walk Harnesses. The Easy Walk Harness gently discourages your dog from pulling on the leash. When your dog pulls, the harness steers your dog to the side and redirects his attention toward you. The harness rests across your dog's chest instead of his throat, so there's no choking or gagging. The Easy Walk Harness is perfect for everything from teaching your dog to heel during daily walks to keeping your dog under control at the vet or dog park.
